Alan Fletcher dropped into EastEnders in a special crossover to mark the end of Neighbours.

The soap has been cancelled after 37 years and the last instalment will air in the UK tonight (29 July), after ending in Australia earlier this week.

A clip shared on Twitter shows Fletcher – who has starred as Dr Karl Kennedy since 1994 – making a surprise appearance in the Walford café.

Linda (Kellie Bright), had been sat at a table talking about sad she was that the Australian soap was ending, when Karl walked in and asked where to find a taxi.

The star was wearing a black face mask and took it off to say: “I’m just looking for a black cab. Apparently it’s the easiest way to make a swift exit from around here.”

Linda can’t believe the soap legend is there, gasping: “It’s Dr Karl Kennedy!”

She asks Whitney (Shona McGarty) to take a picture of them together, gushing about how much of a fan she is and how it had made her day.

“Thank you so much for all the memories and all the years and oh, will you send my love to Susan?” she goes on, before he leaves.

Whitney then tells Linda she was sure it was just a lookalike.

The clip then sees other Albert Square regulars saying goodbye to Neighbours, which had been airing since 1985.

It included Charlie Brooks saying how “obsessed” she was with Scott (Jason Donovan) and Charlene (Kylie Minogue) and Natalie Cassidy saying how sad she was that it was ending.

It was captioned: “Is that Dr Karl Kennedy in Walford?! From everyone here at #EastEnders, thank you @Neighbours for 37 wonderful soap years!”
