Alan Hansen health update after legend was hospitalised

Football legend Alan Hansen has been released from hospital, after falling seriously ill and having to be admitted. In a statement, Liverpool FC said: "Alan has been discharged from hospital today to continue his recovery at home. Alan, Janet, Adam, Lucy and family would like to thank everybody for their wonderful messages of love and support. It has been overwhelming and has helped enormously."

The former Scotland and Liverpool defender Alan Hansen was seriously ill in hospital. Liverpool are providing support to the family of the 69-year-old, who retired in 1991 to start a successful career as a television pundit.

Hansen joined Liverpool from Partick Thistle in 1977 and won three European Cups, eight league titles, two FA Cups and three League Cups in 620 appearances for the Anfield side. When he fell ill, Hansen’s former Match of the Day colleague Gary Lineker wrote on X: “Horrendous news. Thoughts are with Alan, Janet and all the family.”

The BBC’s Match of the Day account said at the time: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Match of the Day are with Alan and his family at this difficult time.”

Ex-team-mate John Aldridge, chairman of the former players’ association Forever Reds, also sent a message of support. “All our thoughts as ex-LFC players are with Alan (Jocky) Hansen and his family. Let’s hope he can pull through his illness. ynwa,” he wrote on X.

Hansen’s long-time central defensive partner Mark Lawrenson posted on X: “Come on Big Al-you can beat this..Love to Janet,Adam,Lucy & all the family….xx”

After leaving Liverpool, Hansene embarked on a punditry career, becoming a BBC and Match of the Day mainstay. Hansen provided analysis for 16 FA Cup finals, six World Cups, five European Championships, and even an Olympic Games before hanging up his boots in 2014 after the World Cup final.
