Yahoo News Aled Jones pays tribute to his 'radio dad' Terry Wogan: 'He was amazing'
Aled Jones has spoken out about his 'radio dad' Terry Wogan, saying there was no better feeling in the world than handing over to him at the end of a show.
The pair appeared on TV and radio together many times and while he was very supportive, Jones said Wogan's sense of humour meant he would also wind him up.
Talking to Kate Thornton on White Wine Question Time the singer — who shot to fame in 1985 as a 15-year-old singing the Christmas hit Walking in the Air — talked about his early career and remembered how supportive his parents have been along the way.
Jones said Wogan, who died in 2016, was 'amazing' and described their time in the studio together.

He said: "I spoke about Terry recently, and I found myself in tears. He called me his radio son. And he was my radio dad.
"There's nothing in the world better, in broadcasting and radio anyway, than either handing to Terry Wogan or Terry Wogan handing to you.

"When he's handing to you, it's kind of scary, because you have control of the studio. So you feel like: 'I can't really cut off Terry Wogan!'
"And so I just let him slag me off like mad or whatever. And then I'd play the jingle, I'd slag him off because he couldn't speak back.
"But he was amazing. I went on his show on TV more times than any other guest."
He spoke to Thornton about some of the highlights and lowlights of his early career, including turning down an appearance on the Johnny Carson show, and an early interview he had done with Wogan.
He explained that a producer had told Wogan that Jones was after his job and Wogan took the opportunity to tease him in his usual good humour.
Jones said: "Terry of course loved that. So he said: 'Come on and interview me.' So I sat in his chair, so nervous.
"And every question I asked, and I genuinely had thought about questions, he just gave the answer 'Prince Philip'. I said: 'So how did you get into broadcasting?' 'Prince Philip.'
"And I was like: 'You rotter, Terry Wogan.' Well I didn't say rotter, I said something worse than that, even at the age of 13.
"I was there in this like sparkly jacket with a leather tie, Mum, what were you thinking?! But you know, in Bangor where I was brought up, we had Burton's and that was it. So that's where I went for my clothes!
