Alexander Isak joins elite Newcastle United group with milestone hit against Burnley

Alexander Isak has joined an elite group of Newcastle United strikers after finding the net yet again for the Magpies. The Swede missed a penalty in the 4-1 win over Burnley but earned instant redemption by scoring from close range moments later.

Isak now has 20 goals for the season in the Premier League, making him the first Newcastle forward to achieve such a feat since Alan Shearer. Only the aforementioned duo, Andy Cole, Peter Beardsley and Les Ferdinand have managed such an accomplishment.

Isak was firmly in the hunt for the Premier League golden boot when he left the Turf Moor pitch with his joyous team-mates but hours later any hope of topping the goalscoring charts come the end of the season looked to be extinguished after Erling Haaland netted four times for Manchester City against Wolves in the Saturday evening kick-off.

Isak's ambitions of personal glory may have been hampered but he is helping Newcastle greatly in the search for a European spot. The 24-year-old started alongside fellow forward Callum Wilson, linking up well after Howe's tactical tweak.

"I say it very week: An outstanding talent," the Newcastle boss said at full-time. "Technically gifted, pace, took his goal well today.

"He'll be disappointed with his penalty but that's just one of those things. Another really good display, I thought him and Callum Wilson looked really well again today, especially in the transitions."

Isak, along with Bruno Guimaraes, has been tipped to depart Newcastle this summer but fresh contract talks have been taken place in recent months.
