Alexandra Burke blasts 'ridiculous' rumours of feud with Gorka Marquez

Alexandra Burke has hit out at rumours she has not been getting on well with her Strictly Come Dancing professional partner Gorka Marquez.

The former X Factor winner insists she is so “close” to the 27-year-old pro dancer and hasn’t ever felt “a connection with someone like” him in her life before.

Writing in her Strictly column in the Radio Times magazine, she said: “There have been stories in the newspapers that we’ve fallen out, which are just ridiculous.

“We are such close friends, I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had a connection with someone like this before.”

Alexandra admitted the pair are “constantly in touch”, but insists they will not fall foul of the so-called Strictly curse – coined after a number of stars broke up with their lovers after appearing on the show – because they are just “very good friends”.

The singer admitted she and pro partner Gorka are close friends.

She added: “Last Sunday, on our one day off, he messaged me to say he missed me, so we FaceTimed and chatted while he watched me do my hair.

“I do get the whole Strictly curse thing, because you’re so close to somebody and you have to have such a strong connection on the dance floor. But Gorka and I really are just very good friends.”

This comes after Alexandra admitted she has “shouted and screamed” at Gorka during rehearsals.

Gorka told The Sun: “She shouts at me more than I shout at her. She brings out the beast in me.”

Alexandra added: “He’s scared of me. There was one time that he stopped mid-dance and I shouted and I screamed at him saying, ‘You are meant to be a pro, don’t ever stop’.

“He was like, ‘Woah, OK girl. I will never stop again.’ ”
