Ally McCoist in Celtic confession when Rangers hero asked if he'd like to see rivals relegated

Ally McCoist wouldn't want to see go through Celtic go through the ringers in the lower leagues in the same way Rangers did - but for selfish reasons.

The Gers legend was the manager of the club at the time of liquidation in 2012 and then helped steer them back up through League Two and League one before handing over the baton to others. It was a painful time for the club from which some may argue they've never fully recovered.

Coisty wouldn't like to see their biggest rivals go through the same - but only because he would miss the derbies and rivalry in the league. He insists Celtic fans will have felt the same and missed the big Old Firm clashes even if they don't admit it and it would be just the same if the other way around.

The topic came up on talkSPORT when a Liverpool fan mentioned that he wouldn't like to see Everton relegated.

The question was put to McCoist in relation to Celtic and he answered: "No! Bottom three would suit me fine...

"The games against each other are what we all generally live for. I was at the 3-3 game (at Ibrox), tremendous. When Rangers went down to the third division, I don't care what anybody says, you missed us. You missed the Old Firm games, because there's something special about them.

"So I understand that - I don't think Liverpool fans would want Everton to be successful, but they love the games against them, and they would miss the games against them."
