Amanda Holden competed against her Cutting It co-stars Sarah Parish and Angela Griffin to see who looked best strutting around in a pearl thong.

The stars of the hit BBC show confessed to Kate Thornton on the latest episode of her White Wine Question Time podcast how they enjoyed raunchy nights in together watching Sex And The City while filming on location in Manchester in the early naughties.

The hit US show was airing while Holden, Parish and Griffin were shooting the hairdressing drama and they were such huge SATC fans they splashed out on the racy, lacy pearl underwear famously worn by Samantha.

Parish, 50, revealed: “We used to watch it every Wednesday when we were doing Cutting It. It was on it and we'd all go into one and one of our flats and watch it.

“We had the pearl lace thongs and had a parade in front of [co-star] Ben Daniels – he had to choose which one looked the best! We'd had a few wines obvs and yeah, we came out and he had to judge.

“I’ve still got mine somewhere. I've got a sexy drawer at home. I mean it’s never open! It's there, it's there. I know it's there.”

Griffin, 42, added: “I can’t remember who the winner was! I’ve nearly blocked it out. I think we had tops on with the thongs. I wouldn’t have taken my top off. It’s alright to wear a pair of pearl thong knickers but I wouldn’t take my top off!”

The former Coronation Street star hailed Sex And The City for given women a sense of sexual liberation.

Griffin said: “It gave you permission, I felt. Like whatever they were doing on there, we'd either done it two weeks before or we did it two weeks after. And it made you feel like, actually it's really all right to like sex, it’s really all right to love your friends more than you love boys. And it's really all right to drink a lot and have fun. And I needed that permission at the time.

“We all identified with one [of the SATC characters.] I quite liked Miranda. She likes a spreadsheet…”
