Amanda Holden in tears during Britain's Got Talent after 'rare' performance

Britain's Got Talent returned to screens on Saturday night, for its highly-anticipated 17th series. Beloved duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were also back on screen once more.

Judging the best of talent across the country saw Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli in the hot seats - with the iconic 'golden buzzer'.

However Bruno was reminded he can only press it once.

One act moved one of the judges to tears, as the golden buzzer was pressed just over halfway into the opening show of the new series. Singer Sydnie, 28, originally from Kent took to the stage and blew the audience away.

The gym-worker, who now lives in London, gave a beautiful rendition of 'Tomorrow' from Annie. Even Simon admitted he used to 'hate' the song but now loves it. He called it a "rare performance" and that she "so deserved what you just got".

Amanda Holden was brought to tears following the song. Visibly touched by Sydnie's song, with tears in her eyes, she said "It's too early," before she made the decision to put the act straight through to the semi-finals.

The judges previously said that nine golden buzzers will be awarded this year, breaking their usual one-per-person limit.

Simon Cowell previously addressed the abundance of talent in the new series ahead of its airing. He said: "I thought there were about another 17 acts who easily could have had a golden buzzer.

"That's how good the talent is this year. I don't think it matters. I mean, we don't want to get to the point where you've got 20 golden buzzer acts, but I think eight or nine is fine."

The hit ITV1 reality competition series has launched with a weekend double bill which will continue into Sunday.
