Amazon Prime Day 2019: Dates released for 'biggest ever sale'

Amazon’s July Prime Day sale has officially been announced and will be running on 15 and 16 July this year.

It will feature more than one million deals across the world, which will include the biggest Prime Day deals ever on its own Alexa-enabled devices, according to the online retailer.

This year will also be the longest Prime Day ever and will see the event run for 48 hours, giving shoppers more time to find the best deals. Last year’s sale lasted a total of 36 hours, which increased from the original 24 hours.

The deals will start from Monday 15 July at midnight, Pacific Time, which is 8am GMT on the same day.

During the 48 hour sale, we're expecting limited-time offers, never-before-seen entertainment and exclusive launches.

The Prime Day will also feature new lightening deals on some of the site’s biggest brands, but because they’re only available for a limited time, once they’ve sold out, that’s it.

Amazon’s sale is only available to Amazon Prime members. To participate, anyone can become a member by starting a 30-day free trial any time before the sale.

Amazon Prime membership costs £7.99 a month or £79 for an entire year, and student’s subscription is only £3.99 a month. Subscribers are eligible for a number of perks including same-day delivery, over 800,000 free ebooks and access to Prime Video and Amazon Music services.

Customers who are already Prime members will get automatic access to the deals.

Also new for this year’s sale is that members will be able to enjoy deals on Prime’s entertainment benefits, including Amazon Music, Prime Video and Twitch Prime, as well as exclusive and new content.

Prime members in the US, UK, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia and – new this year – United Arab Emirates, will be able to shop the deals.

“Get ready, as we pull back the curtain to reveal exclusive products, special performances and two full days of phenomenal deals this Prime Day,” said Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer.

“Our vision is that Prime Day should be the absolute best time to be a member – when you can enjoy shopping, savings, entertainment and some of the best deals Prime members have ever seen.”

As usual, there will be big savings on lots of tech, Amazon’s own products including Kindle, Fire stick, Echo as well as TVs, home appliances, gaming, books and toys.

Deals starting today:

Toshiba HD 43-Inch Fire TV Edition Smart TV – was £368, now £299

Jabra Elite 85h over ear headphones with ANC and smartsound technology – was £279, now £228.81

How can you get the best deals?

The IndyBest team will be rounding up the best deals to help you navigate the array of discounts that will be on offer, so make sure to check back here.

Last year, the retailer also released a list of products ahead of the sale so that shoppers were ready to add them to their shopping basket the minute it started.

Another way to ensure you get the best deals is to download the Amazon app. This will give you a head start, as you will be able to track Lightning Deals – discounts that are only available for a few hours at a time – and set up alerts that will notify you when certain deals go live.

What were the best deals last year?

Last year, some of the best deals on Prime Day were on Amazon’s own-brand devices including the Echo Spot which dropped from £119.99 to £89.99 and the Echo Dot which fell from £49.99 to £29.99.

Kindles and Fire HDMI Sticks saw impressive discounts too. While the former dropped in price from £229.99 to £179.99, the Fire stick went from £39.99 to £24.99.

Other discounts included 50 per cent off coffee machines, 45 per cent off home security kits and 30 per cent off sports brands such as Puma and New Balance.
