Star Wars' Mark Hamill honoured with a Hollywood star

Luke Skywalker has always been a huge presence in a galaxy far, far away, and now Star Wars legend Mark Hamill has been recognised as a true Hollywood star here on Earth with his very own star on the Walk of Fame.

Mark was honoured with his star during a ceremony today (March 8) that saw him reunite with Star Wars castmate Harrison Ford, providing fans with the Luke Skywalker and Han Solo reunion they didn't get on screen in The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi.

And of course it makes sense that R2-D2 was there to honour Luke Mark too.

Before Mark was presented with his star, both Harrison and Star Wars creator George Lucas said a few words, with Harrison paying a touching tribute to their co-star Carrie Fisher, who passed away in 2016.

"When thinking about today, I was really sorry we don't have the other member of our trio to celebrate with us, but I feel her presence," Harrison said (via The Hollywood Reporter).

As for how it was working with Mark for the first time, Harrison revealed that he revisited a screen test he'd done with Mark back in 1976 to refresh his memory, adding: "I was surprised by how good he was."

Also during the ceremony, George Lucas reflected on how Mark Hamill was his only pick for Luke Skywalker.

"Mark Hamill is a character that can't be written," he said. "He is extremity enthusiastic about everything he does, and that is exactly what I was looking for when I cast Luke Skywalker."

With Stormtroopers guarding his star (naturally), Mark was joined by his family, friends and some big Star Wars names at the event – including Kelly Marie Tran and Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd – and thanked all the Star Wars and Batman fans for their support of his two most famous roles as Luke Skywalker and the Joker.

"It's hard to convey my gratitude, my joy and the exhilaration," Hamill said. "I haven't been speechless since Force Awakens.

"[Ford] gave me the great advice, 'Hey, kid, Don't get cocky.' And I have tried to remember that to this very day."
