Gina Torres will be trading in her legal briefs for the cutthroat world of Chicago politics in her own Suits spin-off.
The former Suits cast member will be reprising her role as former Pearson Specter Lit partner Jessica Pearson for a mid-life career change, as she enters the "dirty world" of brokering power in Chicago's local government.
The USA Network has been developing a spin-off for the character of Jessica Pearson for over a year now, and will even be using the upcoming Suits season finale as a backdoor pilot of sorts.
On Thursday (March 8), Suits creator Aaron Korsh announced that the untitled spin-off has officially been given a series order from the USA Network ahead of that backdoor pilot even airing.
"It was an extraordinary pleasure working with Gina on Suits for six years," Korsh said. "Beyond her undeniable talent, she is an incredible partner and collaborator, and I always hoped we would work together again.
"I am sincerely grateful to USA and UCP for giving [showrunner] Dan Arkin, my producing partners at Hypnotic and me the opportunity to continue Jessica Pearson's journey in this new series that will encapsulate all that our fans love about her and Suits - but with its own distinct story that will be unique to the franchise."
Suits is currently in a period of transition, as it will lose both Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle in the season seven finale later in the year. An eighth season has been confirmed, with Katherine Heigl joining the cast.
Gina Torres returns for her backdoor pilot in the Suits finale, airing on Wednesday, April 25 on the USA Network. Netflix streams the series in the UK.
