Amplify Pictures Names Emmy-Winning Producer Lauren Haber Head Of Documentary

Veteran documentary producer Lauren Haber has been appointed to the newly created role of Head of Documentary at Amplify Pictures, the award-winning studio announced on Wednesday.

In her new position, Haber will be responsible for overseeing the company’s current slate of documentary projects and expanding its doc portfolio of globally commercial, filmmaker-driven projects with an emphasis on ongoing series and IP creation. The hiring comes at a dynamic time for Amplify, which has continued to build out its team and slate of global content following an infusion of private equity capital.

Haber comes to the company after serving as VP of Production at Impact Partners, where she curated and supported their slate of independent documentary projects including 32 Sounds directed by Sam Green, Another Body directed by Sophie Compton and Reuben Hamlyn, Peabody winner Aftershock directed by Paula Eiselt & Tonya Lewis Lee, Paper & Glue directed by JR, and the three-part HBO series Nuclear Family, directed by Ry Russo-Young.

She’ll be based in New York and report to Chief Content Officer Rachel Eggebeen, who is based out of Amsterdam and oversees Amplify’s scripted and unscripted content slate, including the 8x Emmy nominated HBO docuseries, 100 Foot Wave.

Said Haber in a statement on her hiring, “I was immediately struck by the ambition, integrity and collaborative spirit that Joe [Lewis], Rachel and Colin [King Miller] radiate and bring into everything they do at Amplify Pictures. The company’s fresh perspective and focus on innovation in the documentary space is absolutely thrilling for me to step into. I’m honored and excited to build Amplify Pictures’ global documentary slate, working with visionary filmmakers to tell stories that surprise and entertain, under a supportive, creator-driven business model.”

Added CCO Eggebeen, “Lauren is a one-of-a-kind producer and executive who thinks big and exemplifies the qualities – smart, funny, innovative – that make Amplify Pictures the home for top filmmakers and creators.  She will be a phenomenal leader for Amplify Pictures as we expand our documentary slate, and we are thrilled to have her bring her sharp sensibilities to our growing team.”

Prior to her time at Impact Partners, Haber produced for documentary filmmakers Shaul Schwarz and Christina Clusiau, collaborating on the feature Narco Cultura, the Independent Spirit Award and Peabody-winning series Immigration Nation for Netflix, and Trophy, for which she took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Nature Documentary. Before diving into documentaries, she ran production and development at the esteemed indie outfit Parts & Labor, overseeing early films by such auteurs as Robert Eggers, David Lowery, Andrea Arnold, among other directors.

Founded in 2018 by Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe-winning producer and Amazon Studios co-founder Lewis (Fleabag, Transparent), Amplify Pictures is helmed by Lewis alongside founding partners Eggebeen and Miller, with the latter serving as Chief Operating Officer. The studio behind HBO’s most Emmy-nominated documentary project of this year, HBO’s surf series 100 Foot Wave, has already secured a renewal for Season 3.
