Amy Dowden has said she hopes she has "done enough" in her battle with cancer as she is set to undergo her last round of chemotherapy.

The Strictly Come Dancing star was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer earlier this year and has been undergoing chemotherapy ever since after doctors found more tumours.

Speaking to host Davina McCall, Dowden said: "It has been the toughest year of my life but I’m just really hoping with the surgery that I’ve already had and the chemo that I’ve done enough."

She continued: "When I sat in that room and the doctors said, “Amy, yes you have cancer”, that was one stab, and then, 'What’s your fertility plans?', because I’ve got an oestrogen-fed cancer and they need to shut my ovaries down, basically, and my husband is next to me and we’ve only been married a couple of months. It’s just heartbreaking and that is something I never knew and the impact emotionally, it has just been so tough."

In June, Dowden underwent a mastectomy with the 32-year-old discovering the cancer after checking herself as mammograms aren't available to under 50's in the UK.

While sitting out Strictly this year from a dancing standpoint, she has made several appearances on the show over the last few weeks.

Other symptoms include a change in size of either breast, swelling around the armpit and changes to the nipple.
