Amy Schumer: I'll never be a beautiful skeleton with t*ts

Amy Schumer has had to face up to the horrible realisation that she is working in an industry where her version of sexy isn’t normal. She isn’t “skinny with t*ts” and therefore isn’t “beautiful” by Hollywood’s standards.

Ahead of International Women’s Day on Wednesday, the 35-year-old comedian has opened up about coming to terms with her weight in Hollywood. She admitted she did try to slim down to fit in but she didn’t feel it suited her when she was smaller and regardless of industry people telling her she is “very fat”, she feels “strong and healthy” in her own skin.

Speaking in her upcoming Netflix special ‘Amy Schumer: The Leather Special’ obtained by People and due to be released today, she said: “I’m what Hollywood calls, very fat. Before I did anything, somebody like explained to me, ‘Just so you know, Amy, no pressure, but if you weigh over 140 lbs., it will hurt people’s eyes. And I was like [‘Okay.’] I just bought it. I was like, ‘Okay, I’m new to town. So lost weight.

“I look very stupid skinny. My dumb head stays the same size but then my body, like, shrivels and just look like a, like a Thanksgiving Day parade [balloon] of Tonya Harding. Nobody likes it. It’s not cute on me.

“I got worried because it gets in your head – just everything on television and movies and magazines and the internet. All the women are just beautiful little skeletons with t*ts … I’m like, ‘Oh, my god! Are men still going to be attracted to me?’ And that’s when I remembered … they don’t care.”I feel very good in my own skin. I feel strong. I feel healthy. I do. I feel sexy.”

Amy previously revealed she was shockingly told at her first audition that she should either lose weight or put on a lot of weight so she could be cast in the role of the “fat friend”.

She said: “At my first audition when I was 21, they were like, ‘You should either lose weight or gain a bunch of weight, like be the fat friend or the romantic lead.’ Can you believe they said this? But I feel like more than other people saying it, it’s a self-inflicted thing. We put pressure on ourselves andhold ourselves to this unrealistic standard …

“I want to throw my hands in the air after reading a mean Twitter comment and say, ‘Alright! You got it. You figured me out. I’m not pretty. I’m not thin. I do not deserve to use my voice … All my self-worth is based on what you can see.’ But then I think f*** that.”
