The 35-year-old actress has stated she was “screaming for him to stop” during one of her former partner’s violent outbursts, but he reached for a butchers’ knife.
Amy opened up about the painful time she dated an abusive man in her twenties, called Dan, who was violent towards her.
She made the claim in her new book The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo, in which she recalled an incident when he attempted to break a mug over her head and added: “I was screaming for him to stop, when he grabbed a butcherknife from a drawer. And that’s when I was sure he was going to killme. It may sound cliché, but I saw my life flash before my eyes.
"I thought he was the love of my life for a long time but I allowedhim to hurt me in ways that I still don’t understand. Dan and I would go to happy hours and get drunk, and then he’d getmad and shove me little. Sometimes from the shove, I’d trip oversomething and fall, and get hurt.”
Amy left her boyfriend after the knife incident and said she’s a “strong” woman, but domestic abuse can happen in any household.
She said: “I’m a strong-ass woman, not someone most people picture when they think ‘abused woman’. It can happen to anyone. You’re not alone if it’s happening to you, and you’re not exempt if ithasn’t happened to you.”
Meanwhile, Amy’s unlucky-in-love streak ended when she started dating Ben Hanisch, whom she met on a dating app.

She said: “We sent each other very simple hellos and short, funny messages … When we met, we smiled at each other and in that moment, everything felt right.”
