Andre Breitenreiter tears into Huddersfield Town players after 'terrible' Preston North End loss

Huddersfield Town boss Andre Breitenreiter branded their defending in the second half of their 4-1 defeat at Preston North End as "unacceptable". Breitenreiter's side opened the scoring at Deepdale after a well-taken finish from Josh Koroma.

But the clash dramatically swung Preston's way after the hosts levelled things up from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute after Alex Matos was adjudged to have brought down Will Keane, who made no mistake from 12 yards. Substitute Milutin Osmajic then grabbed a seven minute hat-trick to increase the Terriers' drop fears.

“When you defend like we did in the second half you cannot get some points,” said an angry Breitenreiter. “It was terrible, it was poor, too many ball losses.

“We played a really good first half but we missed the final pass to score more goals, we had really good opportunities to score two or three goals and we didn’t do that…

“I cannot tell you my opinion (on the penalty decision) because I didn’t see the clip. But the goal changed everything. Then we have to speak about our own performance and the performance was not good enough.

“After 1-1 there were too many ball losses, we didn’t play as a team, we had bad body language. It was a different game and it was not acceptable for me.”

Next up for Town is a trip to mid-table Bristol City on Saturday. The Terriers will slide back into the Championship relegation zone if Birmingham City avoid defeat at home to Cardiff City tonight.
