Angelica Ross Alleges Ryan Murphy Ignored Her After All-Black ‘American Horror Story’ Season Idea
Angelica Ross is accusing Ryan Murphy of ghosting her over an “American Horror Story” season idea.
Ross, who appeared in Seasons 9 and 10 of the anthology series as well as Murphy’s “Pose,” tweeted emails allegedly sent by Murphy that suggested the executive producer was interested in an all-Black season of “AHS.”

An email claimed to be from Murphy in July 2020 to Ross reads, “Remember your idea about a ‘Horror’ season starring Black women? Well I’m doing it. Not sure of the story yet, but we will start a writers room in the fall.”
Murphy lists Keke Palmer and Gabourey Sidibe as potential co-stars and asks Ross to suggest another name to round out the foursome. Ross suggested Debbi Morgan and Angela Bassett, along with Halle Berry, Kerry Washington, and more actresses to co-star.
Ross then explained that Murphy “left [her] on read” in a TikTok video, also noting she followed up about Murphy’s idea for Season 11 in February 2022.
“After not hearing back, after sending flowers and no response I sent one last email in February 2022 (it took about a year to film Season 10 due to COVID) while still contractually in first position with the show,” Ross captioned. “Mind you, Marvel had called twice now. I haven’t heard from him since.”
Ross alleged that Murphy’s initial email was a way to “present diversity” without actually doing it. The actress later clarified that allegedly losing out on a Marvel role was after “auditioning for three years” for the franchise.
“It’s not JUST that the idea changed,” Ross tweeted about Murphy and the presumed “AHS” season. “Things change all the time. It’s that I called business affairs for MONTHS trying to get clarity if they were picking up my contract option or if I was OK to tell Marvel that I was available for whatever they were calling me for. I had been auditioning for THREE YEARS for Marvel. It’s that I was HELD in first position the whole time.”
IndieWire has reached out to Murphy and FX.
“AHS: Delicate,” the 12th season in the franchise, stars franchise staple Emma Roberts and series newcomer Kim Kardashian. The series premieres September 20 on FX.
