Gibraltar is very angry at The Sun
The Sun has sparked fury with its latest front page story telling Spain to keep its “hands off” Gibraltar.
The newspaper is campaigning for Gibraltar to remain British regardless of any Brexit deal and has already run a previous front page story with the headline Up Yours Senors!
It’s latest splash featured a play on Michael Caine’s words in The Italian Job, saying: “you’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off” with a picture of a giant Hands Off Our Rock message that the newspaper had had beamed onto the headland using a projector.
The stunt saw other messages projected onto the rock, including No Way Jose as well as one written in Spanish.

And while the popular red top has featured photographs and comments from people supporting its campaign, elsewhere it has sparked fury with its campaign, with many users on Twitter accusing the tabloid of being insulting and provocative.

Others questioned the legality of the stunt to project the words onto the rock, with some simply branding it ludicrous.
The Sun projected insulting messages to Spain onto the Rock of #Gibraltar illegally, no gov permission, no obligatory environmental analysis https://t.co/EwPIh8lwux

Most of Gibraltar didn't cheer The Sun's idiotic stunt, last thing we want to see is our Rock in the same company as 'Gotcha' & 'The Truth'

The Sun newspaper is more keen on us going to war with Spain than anyone else. Please don't I love Spain more than I do the UK #Gibraltar

Others mocked the headline for its potential innuendo.
Guess the sub doesn't realise what they've written, or maybe the Sun's changed its position on #Gibraltar to a "make love not war" approach pic.twitter.com/dHA82rijpb

The campaign has also caused consternation in Gibraltar, with reddit user Unic0rnBac0n taking to the site to condemn its stunt.
The user wrote: “All Gibraltarians condemn this act, we are British and so we prefer to have the stiff upper lip in these kinds of situations, but to be underhanded by our own countrymen in this manner is deplorable.”
The comments accused the newspaper of deliberately trying to provoke Spain and added: “F**k you The Sun, from everyone in Gibraltar, leave us alone, stop reporting on us.”
A spokesman for the Government of Gibraltar said the Chief Minister had given his full backing to The Sun’s campaign of support for Gibraltar but they would not be commenting on individual pages.
