Angry Dresden Protests Target New Art Installation

Three months after angry protests against an Aleppo-inspired art installation in Dresden’s city centre, about 100 people came out to rally against a new piece of art work with chants of “get lost”.

The installation called Memorial to the Permanent Recommencemen’ was officially launched in the city’s Neumarkt on Tuesday, April 25, taking the place of the Bus Monument installation, imitating an iconic image of the Syrian conflict, after it was dismantled at the start of the month to be moved to Berlin. Many of the same protesters were reported to have come out, to voice their distaste for the installation consisting of a collage of partial casts of a number of famous monuments in Dresden, including from the communist era.
