Angry Protesters Call For 'Justice For Elijah' at Sydney Supreme Court

Crowds gathered to express outrage at the NSW Supreme Court on Monday, July 24, the day after a man was sentenced to three years in jail for killing Aboriginal teenager Elijah Doughty.

The man, whose identity was suppressed, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving occasioning death and was sentenced to three years jail over Elijah’s death in Kalgoorlie in 2016, the SBS reported.

According to New Matilda, the decision caused anger among those who alleged Elijah, who was riding a motorbike when he was struck by the man’s car, was struck deliberately by the accused.

Rallies were held in other parts of the country, including in Adelaide, with some saying the tragedy was a symptom of vigilante justice being launched against young Aboriginal people. Credit: Facebook/George Newhouse via Storyful
