Annette Hess To Receive The Inaugural Deadline German TV Disruptor Award At Seriencamp; Cologne-Based Festival Also Beefs Up Streamer Presence, Adds Sessions On Queer Representation

Annette Hess will receive the first-ever Deadline German TV Disruptor Award at Seriencamp next month. Hess has created some of the most memorable German drama series of recent years with work including Weisensee and the Ku’damm series, to Disney+ show The Interpreter of Silence, based on Hess’ novel Deutsches Haus. Ku’damm fans are currently waiting on a new series, Ku’damm 77, which Hess is in the process of writing with production set for early 2026.

As well as being a creative powerhouse, Hess is an outspoken advocate for change at an industry level. Living up to the Disruptor moniker, she has championed efforts to strengthen the role of writers and screenwriters in film and TV, and continues to fight for better representation for women in the business.

More from Deadline

Hess will collect the inaugural German TV Disruptor Award at Seriencamp in Cologne, and take part in a fireside chat about her work and career.

Deadline can also reveal new streamer additions to the Seriencamp line-up, and sessions that will focus on queer representation.

Amazon’s Petra Henge will give delegates a taste of what Prime Video has coming as part of the Next From strand, which will also feature local streaming platforms ZDFneo and Joyn.

Looking at projects at an earlier stage, the Work In Progress part of Seriencamp will feature Netflix, BBC and ZDF drama A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder. That strand will also offer sneak glimpses of ZDF, France TV, Hulu Japan and MBC crime thriller Concordia, and Generation Z, the boomer zombie apocalypse series from British filmmaker Ben Wheatley.

Seriencamp also confirmed the now almost obligatory coproduction sessions. There will also be a future-gazing conference opener with Johanna Koljonen, author of the Nostradamus Report.

Elsewhere, a focus on queer representation in drama will feature a session entitled (Lost) Queerness In Series, asking how queer stories can break into TV’s mainstream. The Screenwriters’ Lounge, meanwhile, will be an in-depth look at queer representation in story development with Kai Kreuser (Kuntergrau), Marlene Melchior (Loving Her), Alejandro Mathé (El Mártir) and Marcel-Jana Urban (Genderf**kers).

Seriencamp runs June 5 through 8.
