Ant And Dec Admit Losing Faith In Labour

Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have disclosed that despite feeling "staunchly Labour" they are finding it hard to commit their support to Ed Miliband.

The pair, who famously hosted an election party after Tony Blair’s 1997 landslide victory, said they would vote for Labour if they could but were not sure what the party stood for any more.

In an interview with The Times newspaper, McPartlin confessed to voting Conservative for the first time in his life in 2010.

He said: "I voted Labour all my life but last election I voted Tory because I was thoroughly disillusioned with the Labour government.

"Now I'm thoroughly disillusioned with a coalition government.

"I feel we're both staunchly Labour and would vote Labour if we could, but I don't know what their philosophy is any more."

Donnelly added: "I'm not sure I could picture him [Ed Miliband] as prime minister."

It comes on the same day David Axelrod, Barack Obama's former election adviser hired at great expense by Labour, said he would not put Mr Miliband in the same category as the president.

In an interview with The Guardian he said: "I think Obama's a once in a lifetime candidate. I can't think of another person who I would put in his category in my experience of consulting. So I wouldn't put that burden on Ed or anyone."

Instead he described the Labour leader as "smart, earnest guy who very much cares about the issues I care about, especially when it comes to the economy".

The Conservatives were quick to capitalise on the Ant and Dec interview tweeting: "Dec of Ant & Dec: 'I’m not sure I could picture @Ed_Miliband as Prime Minister.' #JustNotUpToIt"
