Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway has been pulled from the TV schedules this week, as Ant McPartlin has confirmed he is returning to rehab.

The announcement comes one day after the presenter was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, after his Mini was said to have been involved in a collision with two other cars in London.

While Saturday Night Takeaway will definitely not air this coming Saturday (March 24), ITV said that it is considering the possibility of continuing ahead with the last two episodes of the current series without Ant.

"ITV has taken a joint decision with Ant & Dec's team not to broadcast Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend," the broadcaster confirmed.

"We will be reviewing options for the last two episodes of the series, which would not feature Ant, who is taking time off to seek treatment. We very much hope that he gets the help that he needs."

A statement from Ant & Dec said: "Ant has decided to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments.

"He has spoken with Dec and ITV today and asked for time off for the foreseeable future. As such, Saturday Night Takeaway will not be going ahead this Saturday."

Ant – who also presents Britain's Got Talent and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! with his presenting partner Declan Donnelly – has been open about his recent struggles with addiction to prescription painkillers.

Earlier this year, the presenter confirmed that he and his wife of 11 years Lisa Armstrong are planning to divorce.
