Ant McPartlin arrested and released over drink driving car crash


Ant McPartlin has been released from custody after he was arrested last night for being over the legal drinking limit that resulted in a car crash.

The Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway co-presenter was remanded into custody after South London police found him to be over the legal alcohol limit, after failing a roadside breathalyser test.

The star, 42, was taken in by police for questioning, after his vehicle hit another, resulting in a three-car smash. According to the BBC’s report, there were several minor injuries and both ambulance as fire services attended the scene of the incident. It’s reported that a three-year-old child was taken to hospital for a precautionary check-up.

A statement from the Met Police read:

‘Police in Richmond were called to Lower Richmond Road, SW14 at 15:59hrs on Sunday, 18 March following reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles.

‘Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended.

‘A number of individuals were treated at the scene for minor injuries only. A child passenger from one of the cars has been taken to hospital for a check up as a precaution.

‘A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving after failing a roadside breathalyser test.

‘He has been taken to a south London police station for questioning. Enquiries continue. Roads are expected to reopen shortly.’

A witness reportedly told the Sun that the telly icon became ‘agitated’ when a police officer escorted him into the back of their car.

‘Ant looked in a right state and was acting argumentatively toward a policewoman,’ they claim.

‘I couldn’t believe it when I saw who it was.’

After bring arrested late yesterday afternoon, McPartlin has since been released as the incident is investigated, according to the Mirror.

McPartlin is one half of one of TV’s most famous presenting duos Ant and Dec, who host shows such as I’m A Celebrity and Britain’s Got Talent. The duo are due to present Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend, which airs on ITV1 at 7pm.

The TV star has made plenty of headlines over the past 12 months, after it was revealed he’d checked into rehab to battle drug addiction.

His marriage with wife of 11 years, Lisa Armstrong, also ended before Christmas, amidst reports that both were struggling to move on after the split. There’s since been speculation over the legal battle around the telly star’s fortune.

Plenty of celebs have entered the discussion over Ant’s well-being and whether he will appear on this weekend’s Saturday Night Takeaway, with Lorraine Kelly speaking about how she firmly believes he will feature as normal during the live Saturday broadcast: ‘He will be there on sat night,’ she insisted. ‘He will’.

‘…unless there’s more to it than we all think,’ she said to Dan Wootton.
