Anthony Joshua has said he is working to help save his local pub in a new interview.
The two-time world heavyweight champion sat down with Sky News ahead of his title fight with Daniel Dubois in September and discussed a wide range of topics.
A clip from the conversation that was shared today includes a surprising piece of information about what he is doing behind the scenes.
Asked about how far national politics and the election are on his radar, the Watford boxer instead highlighted his work in his own community.
“What I’m trying to do at the minute is just trying to keep my local pub open actually,” Joshua laughed.
“That’s about it, that’s as far as my politics reach.”
Pushed for more detail, the fighter explained that he was set to have a meeting with the current landlord and discuss whether he would be able to take over the lease.
He added: “They just want to take the lease back and they are probably going to knock down the pub and build flats, and it’s a massive hub for the community.”
Joshua, who grew up in the Meriden estate but now lives in London, did not specify which pub he was referring to.
