Alien: Isolation is one of the best licensed games, and best horror experiences, of all time. The way it used the oppressive environments and unreliable technology of the original movie, along with groundbreaking AI and terrifying use of sound made it unforgettable, and we'd love a sequel.

Well, the good news is that a new game set within the Alien franchise has been commissioned, although it looks like quite the different beast to Isolation.

Cold Iron Studios, which is made up of people who worked on DOOM, BioShock Infinite and Borderlands, posted that it has been acquired by FoxNext Games and will be working on the iconic IP:

Even though Disney acquired all of Fox's film and TV properties, it looks like Fox is still making games based on those IPs, which is good because Disney isn't really in that business any more.

Anyway, Cold Iron has stated that their Alien game is going to be a shooter and will take place in "an action-packed persistent world", but we don't know whether that means an ever-evolving online service like Destiny or a tough-as-nails single player campaign.

Either way, it can't be as bad as the absolute disaster that was Alien: Colonial Marines, which was famously accused of faking its trailers and was a broken and buggy mess.

Over on the film side of the franchise, Ridley Scott is threatening to make a sequel to Covenant.
