A mother who carried her baby which developed without a brain to term has said goodbye, in preparation for the child's organs to be donated.

Keri Young and her husband Royce found out in February that their baby was developing without a brain.

Mrs Young decided she would carry the baby to term regardless, so the child's organs could be donated.

“I was a spectator to my own life, watching a superhero find her superpowers," Mr Young wrote on Facebook after his wife chose to donate the child's organs.

“In literally the worst moment of her life, finding out her baby was going to die, it took her less than a minute to think of someone else and how her selflessness could help.”

After the baby was born, Mr Young posted a picture of himself with his wife and their child Eva, who died shortly afterwards.

He wrote on Facebook: "We said hello and goodbye to our sweet Eva yesterday".

Hundreds of people sent their best wishes to the couple after the news.

One wrote: “That courage and is the most humane gesture I've ever seen in my life”.

Another said: “Thank you and your wonderful & brave wife for trying to turn a family tragedy into a blessing for others.”
