Former S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole has revealed the real reason why he sold his BRIT award for over £66,000 on eBay.

Cattermole, 40, shocked fans when he listed his prestigious gong for Best Newcomer on the online auction site to help “pay his bills”.

But Cattermole was the one left gobsmacked as the listing sold for a massive £66,100 – and the singer has now revealed the real reason behind the sale.

In a chat with NME, Cattermole admitted that an injury suffered while touring with The Rocky Horror Picture Show left him unable to work.

He told the publication: “I was injured in quite a bad way. There an un-choreographed bit of dancing [that went wrong] and someone fell on me. I was out of the show for about two months. My back has gone – it hasn’t been right since.”

Cattermole added: “Things just haven’t gone well this year [in terms of finding work] with that injury.”

Since the staggering sale, the Hertfordshire-born singer has now listed his second award for Best Single 2002.

The top bid stands at £65,900 at the time of writing, with 61 bids taken, and the auction ends on January 25 2018.

Cattermole also told the magazine how somebody asked why he didn’t just “go into the jungle” but the singer revealed that he has “asked many times to be let in”, only to be rejected for “not being famous enough”.
