Jack Maynard has issued an apology after a series of offensive tweets resurfaced online.

The vlogger and current I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! contestant made racial and homophobic slurs in the posts, which date from 2011 to 2013.

The slurs included using the N-word in a playful manner, mocking gay men and laughing at people with facial disfigurements, and were revealed in a report by The Sun during last night's (November 19) launch show.

Replying to the report, his representative said: "Jack is ashamed of these tweets, many were deleted a long time ago.

"He would never use that language now and realises this kind of retaliatory, inflammatory, insulting language is completely unacceptable."

In the tweets – posted to his official Twitter account – Jack uses the N-word, while branding other users as "retarded" and "f***ots".

In one tweet he said: "At alices with my n***as!"

In another, he appears to mock people with deformities, posting pictures of them alongside comments "in his prime" and "Ahahahaha! Sooo funny!".

In December 2012, he also replied to two people using the phrase "retarded f***ot".

In another post in February 2013, he shot back at one critic: "hahaha shutup you f***ot... By the way who hit you with a shovel?"

It's not yet known whether the tweets will affect his place in the competition.

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here continues tonight (November 20) on ITV at 9pm.
