I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! star James McVey has shared his own personal reasons for wanting to do the show.

The Vamps singer finished fifth in the 2018 series and lasted 20 days in the jungle.

Appearing on Loose Women, James made it clear that he had no intention of positioning himself to have a solo career.

"I wanted to do it," he said. "I'm very happy with my position in The Vamps. I don't want to go solo or anything like that.

"I wanted to test myself as a person. I struggle a lot in social situations with people I don't know, and I thought the best way to do it was to take away absolutely everything and just focus on being comfortable with myself."

James also said that he is thinking about proposing to his girlfriend Kirstie Brittain, and it's largely because of seeing fellow campmate Harry Redknapp with his wife Sandra.

"Harry and Sandra are the true love story," he said. "It's very easy for us all to think it doesn't exist. But it really does.

"They met when they were 17, courted for four years, then got married. They're definitely the example that's made me realise Kirstie and I are very happy with what we've got and we want to kind of do it, really.

"He's given me the inspiration to take the next step."

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
