Following a disappointing Manchester United move, Wilfried Zaha returned to Crystal Palace to become one of the most influential players in the Eagles squad.

And Palace announced a major boost on Friday morning as with the news that Zaha had signed a five year contract extension with the south London club.

Zaha has played 35 premier league games for Palace this season scoring seven and assisting nine goals. His consistency and form have resulted in interest from other clubs, especially Tottenham.

Spurs made multiple attempts to lure the Ivory Coast international to White Hart Lane, with Arsenal and Manchester City also interested in a deal.

The 2016/17 campaign did not live up to expectations for the Palace faithful having narrowly escaped relegation, but Zaha did manage to showcase his quality on the ball and link well with Palace’s top scorer Christian Benteke.

With Sam Allardyce vacating the manager’s role at the club, the news of Zaha signing a new five-year contract has provided the fans with something to cheer about.

Palace's Instagram account posted an image of club chairman Steve Parish and Zaha after the latter signed the deal, with fans taking to the social media site to express their delight after hearing the news.

@stephenbrowtt congratulated Parish: "Great news Steve", while @ryanlettscp said: "Like a new signing that we know will deliver."

However, some remain sceptical about the contract extension - @itz_scalvo99 commented: "Just to get the price higher, don’t worry he will leave."

There was plenty of praise for Zaha and Palace on Twitter though...
