Apple could be plotting to kill off the Home button next

Earlier this autumn, a lot of people were rather displeased when Apple got rid of the headphone jack on iPhone 7 – but it seems that’s not the only function Apple’s sizing up for the chop.

If rumour is correct, the next target could well be the Home button.

Apple’s rumoured to be making its first device without the iconic round ‘unlock’ button on the front – an iPad, due early this year.

Macotakara says that a new 10.9-inch iPad will still have the Facetime camera at the top of the screen – but will be missing the home button.

The additional space will make room for more screen, with the tablet expected to be the same size as the current 9.7in iPad Pro.

The move could pave the way for iPhones without buttons on the front – an approach already seen on Google’s rival Pixel phone, which has no buttons on the front.
