Apple’s iPhone 8 will be very ‘different’, insider reveals - here’s what to expect

Apple unveiled its new iPhone 7 earlier this month - prompting a lot of grumbling about the fact it looks the same as the last two phones.

But next year, the phone could be getting its biggest overhaul since the device launched 10 years ago, an insider has revealed.

An Apple employee, working at an office in Herzliya, Israel, said that the new device will be called iPhone 8 (not iPhone 7S) and will be ‘different’.

Analysts predict that Apple may bring out a phone with an ‘edgeless’ screen going right across the device next year - and a new ‘curved’ all-glass finish.

Respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo - who has a long track record of accurate predictions of upcoming iPhone models - said that Apple is going to shake things up with a new ‘curved’ look in 2017.

The prediction has been echoed with rumours from within Apple’s supply chain.

Speaking to Nikkei Asian review earlier this year, source predicted that the next phone would be ‘equipped with a screen bent on the two sides’.

The move to a curved screen wouldn’t be altogether surprising: Samsung’s S7 Edge model has proved hugely successful.

Respected KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo predicted earlier this year that Apple would move to a curved screen.

He said, ‘We expect the 2017 new iPhone model to adopt a structural design similar to that of iPhone 4/ 4s, meaning it will be equipped with glass on both the front and back sides, and a metal frame surrounded the edges.

‘The difference is that the new model will likely come with a curved screen and curved glass casing, with other important features including a 5.8-inch AMOLED display, wireless charging, and more biometric recognitions (facial or iris).’
