A new watersports and aqua park is opening in Blackpool later this month.

Wild Shore Blackpool is based at the former Blackpool Wake Park, which had been running on the Fylde coast for more than a decade.

But the attraction closed in 2022 and was bought by Wild Shore, a company that specialises in adventure activities for the family.

The aqua park is described as 'a giant floating playground of adventure' and hosts a number of Ninja Warrior-style features including Tire Run, Ninja-Jump and Eagles Nest. It 'provides the perfect challenge of balance and nerve for a range of ages and abilities'.

Sessions can be booked individually, or as family or group trips, with the option to hire it for birthday parties.

Children from the age of six, with a minimum height of 1.1m, can give it a go, although under eights need to be accompanied by an adult. One adult can supervise up to three children.

Watersports at the site include paddleboarding and kayaking, with 'learn to SUP' sessions available from the age of eight.

Cable wakeboarding is also available, where an overhead cable pulls you over the surface of the lake with a feel similar to surfing or snowboarding but on water. Minimum age is six.

And you can book for open water swimming from the age of 13.

The booking system is already open for the park, which opens on Wednesday, May 29, which for most families is the middle of May half term.

Wild Shore Delamere, Cheshire, now has all of its activities open for the new season. As well as the aqua park, paddleboarding and wakeboarding, it's also home to the Aqua Chimp floating obstacle course, featuring everything from zip wires and rope swings to climbing walls and rope bridges.

Billed as a 'world first', the concept is simple - there's no harness, so if you fall off, you get wet. It's suitable for all abilities, with different coloured runs to match the participant's ability.

Aqua Chimp is for adults and children aged eight and above, although there is a minimum height restriction of 1.2m and you must be able to swim 25m.
