Director James Wan certainly knows how to get the superhero fan's blood pumping, as he's now offered a sneaky glimpse at the upcoming trailer for Aquaman.

With the film's first trailer set to be unleashed at San Diego Comic-Con later this week, check out Wan's social media post below where he reveals that he's just putting the "finishing touches" on things.

The stunning image has sent fans into hysteria (there's probably some joke in there about the bends, which we won't bore you with) with many comic-book enthusiasts totally losing their cool in response to the teaser.

You can't blame them of course, as this big insight into Wan's vision looks extremely promising.

Judging by the image, this year's Aquaman with Jason Momoa as the titular character is set to be biblical in scope and very ambitious effects-wise.

Although it remains to be seen whoever the character shown on the screen in the tweet actually is, according to Comic Book Movie, there's a strong chance it's Patrick Wilson's King Orm.

Wilson recently took some time to discuss his character's plight in the movie.

He said: "He's kind of an eco-warrior. He's got a very clear gripe with the surface world, which has been polluting his oceans for centuries. And that's something for me - I'm sure for you too - that's very easy to understand."

We're counting the days until the trailer finally drops.

Aquaman is released in cinemas on December 14.
