Lil Nas X heads to Area 51 in a new video for a remix of his hit Old Town Road, which features Billy Ray Cyrus, Young Thug and Mason Ramsey.
The rapper’s new cartoon clip comes after more than one million people joined a Facebook event pledging to raid Area 51, the restricted US AIr Force base which conspiracy theorists believe is the site of alien activity.
The joke Facebook event is called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us” and is slated to take place on September 20.
Lil Nas’s video sees a cartoon avatar of the rapper invite his collaborators to storm Area 51, arriving on horseback to the shock of soldiers guarding the top secret facility.
There is also a cameo appearance from a cartoon Keanu Reeves, dressed like anime character Naruto in reference to the event organisers’ suggestion that the raiders “naruto run” to “move faster than [soldiers’] bullets.”
Green aliens feature towards the end of the clip, helping the stars to gather special treasures.
The event has inspired plenty of hilarious memes on social media and interest in the base has even prompted the US Air Force to issue a pre-emptive warning to trespassers.
“[Area 51] is an open training range for the US Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces,” spokeswoman Laura McAndrews said.
“The US Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets,” she added.
Old Town Road has spent 15 weeks at the top of the Billboard 100 chart in the US in 2019.
It broke weekly streaming records when Lil Nas released a remix featuring country star Billy Ray, topping the chart with 143 million US streams. The record was previously held by Drake’s In My Feelings, which notched up 116.2 million streams on the week of July 28 2018.
