Armed police will be at a North Wales holiday park this week. North Wales Police will use the currently closed Pontins site in Prestatyn.

The site shut last year and remains empty. This has seen the police force strike an agreement with the owners to use the site for training.

Police said will help officers train for real-life incidents. It is understood armed police will be among those using the facilities.

But they have said that this is not in response to any specific threat or concern in relation to holiday parks or similar facilities.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "Our police officers often conduct important training to help prepare them for real-life incidents. This training is not in relation to any specific threat.

"A training exercise is due to take place tomorrow (Tuesday 7th) and on Friday 10th at the former Pontin’s site in Prestatyn – a venue which we have previously used over recent weeks.

"There is no need to be alarmed - this is a secure and closed site which is managed safely by instructors. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding."
