It’s not just tweens and teens who are hyped up for Taylor Swift’s Edinburgh gigs, she's a hit with generation X and boomers too.

The pop superstar will perform the first of three mega gigs at Murrayfield Stadium on Friday, with so-called 'Swifties' travelling from across the globe to watch her sold-out Eras tour.

Edinburgh Live spoke to some of a rising number of older fans, who are just as keen as the youngsters to be part of the action.

Peter is 51-years-old, turning 52 in a few days time. His daughter surprised him with tickets.

He said: "I’ve been a fan since the Fearless era. I’m very excited to hear it live. I have raised my daughter to be a Swiftie too. She surprised me with tickets for my 50th birthday. I feel like I'll be the oldest man there"

His outfit includes a t-shirt that reads ‘You can still be a Swiftie in your fifties’. Peter will be driving up from Newark and will pick up Ellie-Jean, 19, from Leeds University on the way.

Brian Elliott will also be celebrating his 69th birthday this weekend when he will be going to see Taylor Swift. Brian has been a country music fan since the 1970s and became a Swiftie after his son Stuart introduced him to the music.

He said: "I bought my VIP ticket last July so I have been gradually getting more and more excited as the months progress. I can hardly believe that I will get to see her this weekend."

Michelle Agar

Michelle is 51-years-old and is taking her 16-year-old daughter to the concert. She says their love of Taylor Swift has brought them closer together. She said: "I have been a Taylor Swift fan since the release of her Red album - ‘All Too Well’ drew me in and I was hooked. I’m not sure who is the biggest fan, me or my daughter.

She continues: "We will be travelling from Sheffield on the train for night two and stay overnight. We adore Edinburgh so it’s a double bonus that we have tickets for this fantastic city."

It was a tough choice for Michelle to pick her favourite album. She says: “Gosh, picking your favourite album is like asking who’s your favourite child. I love them all for various reasons and meanings, if I was really pressed then I’d say it’s neck and neck between Folklore and Evermore. My daughter would say Evermore with Champagne Problems being her favourite song.”

Their love of Taylor has brought them closer together. The 51-year-old says: “In times where young people are connected to social media more than anything- being a fan has provided many opportunities for my daughter and me to connect.

"We’ll dissect her lyrics, try and solve the Easter eggs she plants and we love second-guessing her next moves, sharing the anticipation on when Rep TV will be dropped, not to mention our love of buying her vinyl records.”

"Taylor speaks to everyone of all ages."

She adds: “The excitement in our house is immense right now (and that’s just me!). My daughter is in the middle of her GCSE’s but the anticipation of the concert has kept her going. The outfits, makeup and plasters are ready. I’ve even sourced the best place to get a Lorne roll before the gig. “We’re ready for it!”

Favourite song/album: Evermore & Folklore

Lynne Gowans

Lynne from Aberdeen, is 59-years-old and is going to the concert because of her daughter who is a huge fan of the singer.

She bought her daughter a vinyl for her birthday and was sent a presale code that her daughter didn’t need.

She says: “An old school friend of hers who has autism is also a great fan so I decided to try and get tickets and surprise him - he does lots of volunteering work that goes unrecognised. The Midnights pre-sale was ridiculously easy, no waiting, choose whatever tickets you wanted, I went for low-value seated tickets at £95/each, very happy with my choice!”

She adds: “It has been a learning curve for me since July and although I've always loved her energy, she's a great role model for teens and older. I can also say I have a love and appreciation of her music too. I won't be full-out dressing up, I have got my Fighting Dragons sweatshirt and some sparkly glasses!

Lynne will be travelling from Aberdeen on Friday to see the Shake It Off singer that night. The dedicated fan will be travelling back to Aberdeen that night after the concert as she has to chaperone 50 kids at a music event on Saturday from 10 am.

Susie

Kelly Maria spoke to Edinburgh Live about her mother Susie who is going with her granddaughter, Riya. They are all on a family trip from the US, travelling to Paris, London, and Edinburgh.

Kelly says: “When my mom heard Taylor Swift was just a short train ride away, she asked me to change our flight and add a trip to Scotland.”

Kelly says her mum and her daughter are massive fans. She says: “They’re big fans! They are constantly listening to and comparing their favourite songs. The day the movie of her concert came out my daughter asked if she could skip our planned trip to Disney so she could see the film with her Nana.”

She continues: “It’s really has given them something to get excited about together. It’s been a wonderful bridge between generations. And I’m so grateful they have this in common. My son and I are more into hiking.

She adds: “They are so excited. Each night they listen to a new song and my mom recently joined TikTok to follow tour updates.”

Michelle McArthur

Michelle from Edinburgh is 52-years-old and will be going by herself to see Taylor Swift.

She says “I was lucky enough to get a code on the third day when tickets were released. I was so desperate to see her I bought a single ticket- a few of my friends were hoping to go but tickets were too pricey when we looked to get three together.”

The 52-year-old says: “I think she is an amazing performer but it’s her lyrics and songwriting that sets her apart. I also think she is a great role model, especially for girls. Clever and articulate and doesn’t try to be outrageous or provocative just for headlines. She appears pretty grounded.”

She adds: “I am so excited to be going. I think my husband is worn out listening to me. I had a wobble last week about going alone and looking like a sad old lady but I have chatted with so many lovely people on one of the Eras Edinburgh Facebook groups that I’m pretty sure I’ll be grand.”

Favourite album/song: Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me, Cardigan and Exile with Bon Ivor.
