Armed police called as man 'with machete making threats' arrested

Police responded to reports of a "man with a machete making threats" to people in an Oxfordshire village.

Armed police were called to the incident in Southmoor at the junction of Wellington Road and Faringdon Road along with the National Police Air Service at around 6.15pm yesterday (Wednesday, June 26).

A 30-year-old man from Oxfordshire remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and a public order offence.

A machete was recovered from the scene, police said.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We understand this incident may be concerning but we are sure no one was hurt or directly threatened.”

The force is appealing for witnesses and has asked anyone with information to call 101 or make a report on the Thames Valley Police website, quoting the reference number 43240301855.
