Arrest after nearly £200 worth of goods shoplifted from Bolton stores

A man has been arrested after items totalling almost £200 were stolen in a two-day spree.

The man, aged 36, was arrested on suspicion of theft after police were called to Aldi on Higher Bridge Street yesterday, June 25.

Officers allege he had in his possession "a number of stolen items", and that he had been involved in further thefts on Monday at a Co-op branch - he will be questioned by police.

A spokesperson for GMP's Bolton South Neighbourhood Team said: "Officers from the Town Centre Neighbourhood team and shoplifting team have been responded to reports of a shoplifting ongoing at Aldi, Higher Bridge Street.

"Upon attendance they have arrested a male aged 36 on suspicion of theft, after a number of stolen items were located on his person.

"It also transpires that the same male was also wanted on suspicion of to two other thefts from yesterday, Monday 24th June at a Co-Op. The total value of stolen items is approximately £180.

"He remains in custody for questioning on all offences."

Elsewhere in the town centre, two men were arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Bolton Skate Park

They were said to have been "aggressive and intoxicated" and "causing issues" at Bolton Skate Park on Great Moor Street.

A spokesperson for the neighbourhood team said: "The South Neighbourhood Policing Team have dealt with reports of two aggressive and intoxicated males causing issues at Bolton Skate Park.

"Both males were directed to leave the town centre, but failed to do so. They returned causing further issues and were refusing to leave the area.

"Both males, aged 31 and 46 were arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

"They will remain in custody awaiting their imminent hangover."
