Arrests made after £7K worth of copper stolen from business

Arrests have been made after police stopped two “suspicious” vehicles on the M6 yesterday (June 1).

A member of the public alerted police to the suspicious vehicles in Cabus.

Both vehicles were later intercepted and were followed on the M6 to Charnock Richard.

One person was detained after two ran from the van on the hard shoulder. Three were detained from the car which was in convoy with it.

Inside the van were bags and buckets full of stolen copper wiring, estimated to be worth between £6,000 to £7,000.

All were later arrested and the property was returned to the business.

This is the third time this business has been targeted and is estimated to have lost around £66,000 worth of copper.

A police spokesperson said: “In the early hours of this morning [police] were on mobile patrol after being alerted by a member of the public of two suspicious vehicles in Cabus.

“Both vehicles were later intercepted after they were followed on the M6 to Charnock Richard.

“One person was later detained after two exited and ran from the van on the hard shoulder and three were detained from the car which was in convoy with it.

“Inside the van were bags and buckets full of copper wiring ready for weighing. The total amount of property stolen was estimated to be between £6000-£7000.

“All were later arrested and taken to custody and the property was returned to the business.

“This is the third time this business has been targeted and estimated to have lost around £66,000 worth of copper.”
