Arrow's final season is gearing up for the return of a familiar face.

The show's eighth and last run is set to bring back Tatsu Yamashiro/Katana (Rila Fukushima), who made her first appearance in season three and has been off our screens since season four.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the character will pop up in the season's second episode, 'Welcome to Hong Kong', though the context of her appearance is under wraps.

The return makes sense though, especially as star Stephen Amell has described the second episode as "an ode to season three".

"We're playing our greatest hits," he added to EW.

While recognisable faces will be back, season eight is also losing some well-known characters too, with Roy/Arsenal (Colton Haynes) stepping down as a series regular.

The actor has since clarified that it was not his decision to step down, explaining: "Getting a lot of angry messages so just to clarify... I didn't exit the last season of Arrow.

"I was not asked to come back for the final season as a series regular. But y'all know Roy... he's never gone for too long."

Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) won't be back for the final run either, though Mia (Katherine McNamara), William (Ben Lewis) and Connor (Joseph David-Jones) have all been given major roles in season eight.

Arrow is returning to The CW for its eighth and final season on October 15.
