Thomas Partey is fit to start for Arsenal against Liverpool on Saturday.

The midfielder has been out with a groin issue, but after pushing hard to play at Anfield has been selected to start by Mikel Arteta.

“He could not play for the national team (Ghana). He really tried to do that because obviously they had a massive game and he really pushed for that one,” said Gunners boss Arteta on Friday.

“But he wasn’t close enough to do that. And again, it is something that we have to assess today because until today he hasn’t done enough.”

Despite fears captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may not be fit, he also starts. With Granit Xhaka still injured, Albert Sambi Lokonga continues in midfield.

Kieran Tierney, who has had an ankle problem, played for Scotland over the international break, but starts on the bench.

Martin Odegaard is also not picked to start, with Alexandre Lacazette, who has been in good form lately, trusted from the start.

Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1): Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tavares; Partey, Lokonga; Saka, Lacazette, Smith Rowe; Aubameyang.

Subs: Leno, Tierney, Holding, Cedric, Elneny, Maitland-Niles, Odegaard, Pepe, Martinelli
