A brand new story trailer for Assassin's Creed Valhalla sets the stage for the game's narrative, exploring why the Vikings left Norway to invade England.

The trailer shows us Eivor, the protagonist of the game, and some of the challenges and foes they will face on their journey to create a new home.

We know from earlier material and trailers that Eivor is a mighty warrior torn between duty to their brother Sigurd and is a personal quest for untold glory.

Following endless wars and dwindling resources, Eivor's clan, along with others, are forced from Norway and so it is up to you to secure a future among the broken kingdoms of England, taking down fierce warlords, kings and generals as you go.

While there is, of course, full player agency to customise and role-play Eivor however you like, it's good to see some base lore for the characters fleshed out in the trailer such as with Sigurd.

Sigurd is the one who compels everyone to leave for England, but the Saxons aren't exactly thrilled about this decision and, true to Assassin's Creed, mass violence ensues.

During their journey, Eivor will come across the Hidden Ones, and face powerful figures including Saxon kings and the warmongering sons of Ragnar Lothbrok, as well as a mysterious, growing threat to England’s destiny.

Valhalla is almost certainly going to contain the classic Assassin's Creed mysticism elements, which sometimes feel somewhat out of place, especially with characters outright using magic.

Perhaps due to the esoteric nature of the Vikings and the gods, however, this might mesh a little better with the setting.

Leaked gameplay from earlier in the year detailed a boss fight against a witch character, which was filled with supernatural elements seemingly with no explanation.

Ubisoft seems to have avoided showing any gameplay like this off so far, but this new trailer hints towards a "mysterious growing threat that could determine England's destiny".

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be released worldwide on November 10 as an Xbox Series X launch title, as well as coming to PS4, PS5 and PC. Pre-order your copy here.
