Only a few days remain until silly season officially begins, as Aston Villa and their rivals await Friday's opening of the transfer market.

For two-and-a-half months English clubs will be permitted to chop and change and their squads. With Euro 2024 and the latest edition of Copa America taking place side-by-side, it is destined to be a turbulent period for all involved.

A lack of an official opening thus far has not failed to dampen any speculation, with Villa certainly involved in the Premier League storm. There have been claims of players returning, major exits, panic to resolve issues regarding Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

In spite of the latter point, the general consensus is that Unai Emery's squad will need to come out of the window stronger in order to compete on both domestic and Champions League fronts. So, which players could make that vision a reality? Birmingham Live takes a look at the latest transfer rumours from Villa Park...

Douglas Luiz negotiations for double player-plus-cash swap

To ease any financial fears that Villa may have, Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz has been the member of Emery's ranks most-strongly linked with a summer exit, despite his importance to the side.

From Italy, the latest word on this transfer comes from journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. He says that interested party Juventus have entered negotiations for the 26-year-old with an agreement drawing 'closer'.

An interesting facet is the structure of the deal, which he claims Villa have requested €20m (£16.9m) as money, then the rest of Luiz's value would be paid through the swapping of 25-year-old US midfielder Weston McKennie and 20-year-old English forward Samuel Iling-Junior.

Douglas Luiz price tag set

The Mirror believe that any club with interest in Luiz would have to pay Villa's 'asking price' of £50m, which would see the club pocket £31m of profit on the man signed from Man City in 2019.

Their report suggests Arsenal are sniffing around once again having seen a £25m offer turned away in 2022, with Juventus and AC Milan also credited with new interest.

Inter talks begin

Villa appear to be extremely active in the Italian market, as per a Calcio Mercato, who say that sporting director Monchi has been part of two meetings - one in London, the other Milan - to organise yet another swap deal.

Talks with Inter are said to be at a very early stage, but it is said the hope from the English club's perspective would be to secure the arrival of Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries and send Matty Cash to the San Siro as part of the transaction.

Andreas Pereira agent meeting

As one of a number of intrigued Premier League clubs, Brazilian outlet Globo suggest that Villa have started to lay the groundwork for the arrival of Fulham's Andreas Pereira.

They, along with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, are said to be monitoring the attacking midfielder's situation as it seems unlikely he will agree to an extension on his current two-year deal.

Talks with the 28-year-old's agent Kia Joorabchian are allegedly underway, with his future to be resolved after Brazil's Copa America campaign comes to an end.

Tammy Abraham return

According to Leggo.it via Vocegiallorossa.it, AS Roma are hoping to raise €30m (£25.3m) from the sale of former Villa striker Tammy Abraham.

The Englishman has endured an injury-hit season in Serie A, and with his club seeking more consistent alternatives it is reported that the 26-year-old has prompted transfer questions for those in charge at Villa Park. Premier League rivals Leicester City and West Ham are also said to be watching on.

Guendouzi twist

Since his arrival at Villa Park in late 2022, Emery has been tipped to make a move for one of his former players - Matteo Guendouzi. The French midfielder was initially signed by the Spaniard at Arsenal, where they worked together until the manager's sacking.

Guendouzi now plays for Lazio, but if Villa are to make a move for the £25.3m-rated man they would have to do so with strong competition from Newcastle United, say Calcio Mercato.
