Liverpool face a tricky Champions League assignment tonight as they travel to face Serie A outfit Atalanta on matchday three.

The reigning English champions currently sit two points clear at the top of Group D after following a narrow away win over Ajax with a 2-0 defeat of Danish debutants FC Midtjylland at Anfield last week.

Jurgen Klopp’s side then left it late to overcome resurgent West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday, with Mohamed Salah and summer signing Diogo Jota netting in both of those most recent victories.

The Reds’ defensive shortages are likely to be sorely tested by a free-scoring Atalanta side looking to leapfrog them into top spot in the group.

Date, time and venue

Atalanta vs Liverpool is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off tonight (Tuesday November 3, 2020).

The match will be held behind closed doors at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo due to Government guidelines regarding coronavirus.

How to watch

TV channel: The match will be televised on BT Sport 2, with coverage starting from 7pm.

Live stream: BT Sport subscribers will be able to watch the match online via the video player and the BT Sport app.

Team news

Fabinho remains sidelined for Liverpool - who will be without talismanic centre-back Virgil van Dijk for several months following knee surgery - with a thigh injury, while Thiago Alcantara is still absent as he battles a knee issue.

Joel Matip missing out against West Ham led to Nathaniel Phillips making his Premier League debut at the weekend, with the 23-year-old impressing with a man-of-the-match display.

However, Matip, Naby Keita and Kostas Tsimikas have all now returned to training and made the trip to Bergamo, with Klopp set to make a late decision on that trio’s participation.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a long-term absentee.

Liverpool predicted lineup (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Williams, Gomez, Robertson; Henderson, Milner, Shaqiri; Salah, Mane, Jota

Prediction: Atalanta 2-2 Liverpool

Atalanta once again lead the way in terms of goals scored in Serie A this season, while they have already notched six in two Champions League ties.

They should be able to breach this depleted Liverpool defence more than once in a potentially thrilling encounter, though the Reds boast the necessary firepower to keep pace with their hosts.

A high-scoring draw seems the likely outcome here.
