Atmospheric River Brings Rain and Winds to Santa Monica Beach

Another atmospheric river brought heavy rain and high winds to Southern California on Tuesday, March 21.

The storm, which was predicted to last until Wednesday, was expected to bring up to 6 inches of rain and winds of up to 75 miles per hour, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. Areas above 6,000 feet could also get up to 5 feet of snow, the NWS said.

The footage, released by a Santa Monica local, shows a rainy scene at the town’s beach and iconic pier.

This is the 12th atmospheric river to affect the state this season, according to local TV station KTTV. Credit: Laura Linden via Storyful
