Attempt to Block Nairobi Road with Burning Tires Flames Out

Several men unloaded tires from a car and set them on fire in the middle of Oloitokitok Road in Nairobi, Kenya, on October 26, along with other objects in an attempt to block the road.

Only two tires were lit, however, and traffic seemed only slightly hampered before police and bystanders cleared the road. “Cars are just driving around them,” said Trevor Kimenye in one of his tweets. “Wasn’t very effective.”

Elsewhere in Nairobi and across the country, the Kenyan presidential re-run election was threatened by violence and boycotts, including attempts by some citizens to aggressively block polling places.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga told a crowd of supporters in Nairobi that Kenyans who “value democracy and justice” should boycott the vote. His opponent, President Uhuru Kenyatta, is seeking a second term in office and has urged Kenyans to vote. Credit: Twitter/Trevor Kimenye via Storyful
