Attempted Murder Accused 'Tried To Pull Out Her Husband's Intestines'

Officers attending a 999 call have revealed their horror at being greeted by a woman who was “literally covered in blood”.

Dalya Saeed approached them with “blood on her face, blood on her hair and her dressing gown”.

Pc Gavin Simms then followed the sound of moans coming from across the road where, in a doorway, he found a male “lying across the doors of the porch, totally covered in blood”, with a blood-stained meat cleaver discarded nearby, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Mr Simms added: “His internal organs were protruding from a wound to his abdomen.”

Pc Simms and his colleague Matthew Woodfield were responding to a 999 call at about 3.05am on October 20 last year.

It followed reports from neighbours of an altercation between what a jury has been told was former spouses, Saeed and Bilal Mir.

Pc Simms said even he was left shocked by the man’s grievous injury, describing how the walls, floor and doors of the entryway to the flats had been left smeared with blood.

The victim had been slashed in the stomach with a ‘machete’

Sergeant Thomas Hemmings, who arrived at the scene after the two Pcs, said: “it appeared as though some of his internal organs were spilling out of the wound.”

He added: “I could see a leg wound that appeared very deep, if not going all the way to the bone.”

Across the street, his colleague Pc Woodfield took Saeed back inside her flat where he saw “what I can only describe as pieces of flesh on the floor” and spots of blood in the hallway.

She had a cut to her hand and on the way to hospital in the back of the ambulance told the officer Mr Mir had hit her “with a machete and an axe”.

In a series of unsolicited comments in the back of the ambulance and at the hopsital, she also told him: “He cut my arm with a knife. I was hugging him to get the knife and he took (cut) a piece of my hand.”

She also said: “My husband did this.”

The Crown’s case is that Saeed stabbed Mr Mir in the abdomen after having sex with him, with witnesses describing seeing a woman chasing a man out of their flat.

Mr Mir, 31, has also claimed that she had cut part of his internal organs.

Saeed has admitted stabbing her former husband but claimed to have been defending herself after he raped her and attacked her with a machete.

In police interview, Saeed told officers her ex raped her while they were in her flat, and then attacked her with what she called “a machete”.

However, she claimed she had managed to grab the knife and stab him twice in the stomach.

Asked how pieces of his bowel had then ended up on the hallway floor, she alleged she had grabbed a hold of his intestines after he had knocked her to the floor with a wooden bat.

She told officers: “I was dizzy, trying to stand up, to catch (hold of) anything and so I went to his stomach and accidentally felt it (his intestine) and grabbed it, to keep him away and stop him.”

The 34-year-old denies attempted murder and the case, which has been adjourned until Friday, continues.
