Attenborough Wants Road Map For Climate Action

Scientists should be challenged to make affordable energy from renewable sources within 10 years, Sir David Attenborough has told Sky News.

In an exclusive interview with Sky's presenter Dermot Murnaghan ahead of the global climate change summit, known as COP21, in Paris , Sir David said it could take just one big breakthrough to stop global warming in its tracks.

"What we need is a universal plan where the scientific brains of the world get together and work out a road map to solve where the difficulties are - and to do it within the next 10 years," said the veteran broadcaster and naturalist.

"If you can put a man on the moon in 10 years, we can surely do that - and if we did that, the source of global warming would disappear."

Sir David believes governments around the world are not doing enough to tackle climate change, despite overwhelming evidence of the scale of the problem.

He told Murnaghan: "Certainly, it's going to be hugely difficult to get an agreement - but if we don't we are in for disaster."
